Saint Louis FC Win First Ever Friendly

Nor rain, nor wind, nor snow, Saint Louis Football Club plays through. The 2015 expansion USL side bested the SIUE Cougars Saturday afternoon at Korte Stadium, 2-1. With score tied in the final minutes, midfielder Charles Renken crossed the ball into the box, and defender Bryan Gaul was able to head it into the back of the net.

In the 23rd minute, SIEU forward Jabari Danzy opened the scoring. He received a pass from TC Hall and chipped the ball over the keeper. Just four minutes later, STL FC would level the match with a freek kick.

After the match, STL FC Head Coach Dale Schilly had this to say: “I’ve been in the Southern Illinois community since 1994, and it’s great to see just as much excitement about the game here as there is in St. Louis. I’m glad we had the opportunity to bring the team over here so they can see the support they have from fans across the river.”

“Our guys did a good job of attacking the ball and making it tough on their goalkeeper,” STL FC forward Mike Ambersley added after the match. “It was a huge goal for us and it gave us the momentum back.”

The club returns to the pitch on Thursday when it faces USL rival Oklahoma City Energy in Springfield, Mo. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm CST on the campus of Missouri State University.
