The Detroit Red Wings announced that they have placed captain Henrik Zetterberg on injured reserve, and have called up defenseman Xavier Ouellet. The injury is reportedly upper-body.
Zetterberg's IR can be backdated to the 22nd. He'll be eligible to come off as early as tomorrow. Team needed space to call up Ouellet.

Zetterberg, 34, has 49 points in 54 NHL games so far this season, which ranks 34th in league scoring. His 49 points ranks second among Red Wings, and his 15 goals ranks fourth (behind Pavel Datsyuk, Tomas Tatar and Gustav Nyquist).
Zetterberg was drafted by Detroit in the 7th round of the 1999 NHL entry draft, and has 769 points in 816 career contests. The veteran Swede won a Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe in 2008, along with a gold medal at the 2006 Olympics and 2006 World Championships, making him a member of the Triple Gold Club.
