FANTASY PROFILE: ZACK COZART, SS, CINCINNATI REDS
LWOS Ranking 29, Captain’s Value: $0.35
The good news with Zack Cozart is that he provides value to his team with his glove. Despite being having an absolutely brutal 56 wRC+ last year, he managed to have a WAR of 1.2. The bad news is that this counts for absolutely nothing in Fantasy Baseball.
In 2012 & 2013, Cozart had mediocre batting averages (.246 & .254 respectively) but he at least provided some double digit HR totals. The value that he provided to fantasy owners went from slim to none in 2014 as he hit .221 with 4 HR.
The numbers also indicate that Cozart will at least not be that bad this year. His .255 BABIP was 21 points below his career total and his HR/FB rate of 2.5% was significantly lower than his 6.7% career total. Bottom line is that his numbers will likely improve this year but his Fantasy Value is still going to be extremely limited.
