FANTASY PROFILE: WILMER FLORES, SS, NEW YORK METS
LWOS Ranking 25, Captain’s Value: $0.55
Ignore the talk about Ruben Tejada getting a shot at Shortstop this Spring, Wilmer Flores is likely to get the starting job. Flores finished the 2014 strong batting .302 over his last 14 days.
Mets fans like myself are always hopelessly optimistic and then utterly crushed on an annual cycle. It’s happened enough times now that the predictability of disappointment should have tempered future expectations, but we find a way to endure and continue to believe!
I believe in Flores big time.
Despite being only 23, Flores has played nearly 900 games in the minors. He has hit well everywhere he has gone. His AAA stats in particular are mind-boggling. It should be noted that he played in the hitter friendly PCL, but as a shortstop if he hits anywhere near what he did over 162 games .321/.360/.543 28 HR, he’d be a top player in baseball.
The arrow is pointed up on Wilmer, and he could be a very sneaky player hidden near the bottom of the Shortstop rankings. He won’t swipe bags, but don’t be surprised if he hits very well.
