FANTASY PROFILE: ASDRUBAL CABRERA, 2B, TAMPA BAY RAYS
LWOS Ranking 17, Captain’s Value: $3.79
It doesn’t seem that long ago that Cabrera was a threat to hit 20 homers and steal 15 bases, while contributing in most other categories. That’s pretty solid for a middle infielder. But those days are long gone. Cabrera his hit 14 HR the last two seasons and hasn’t stolen more than 10 bases since 2011.
Cabrera hit .223 in the second half last year, but to say that’s an indication of a downward trend in his career would be a bit of an understatement. Cabrera is more than a step slower than he was in years past, and should be avoided even in deep leagues. He is a known commodity and his projections should end up being quite accurate, unfortunately.
