Panthers Trade Sean Bergenheim to Minnesota Wild

The Florida Panthers have announced a trade that sends 31-year-old forward Sean Bergenheim to the Minnesota Wild in return for a 3rd round pick.  The Wild also receive a 7th round pick in the deal.  The picks exchanged will be in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Bergenheim, a first round pick in 2002 for the New York Islanders, has played for the Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers throughout his nine season National Hockey League career.

The Finland native is currently in the final year of a four-year contract worth $11 million. He has a $2.75 million salary cap hit. He is scheduled to be an unresticted free agent on July 1st. Bergenheim’s career high in points is 29, a mark he reached in both the 2013-14 campaign, as well as the 2010-11 season. However, despite his low regular season totals, Bergenheim does have a reputation as a solid post-season producer, with 17 points in 23 playoff games, making him a strong depth addition down the stretch and hopefully for a lengthy playoff run.

Bergenheim has 8 goals and 18 points in 39 games with the Panthers this season.
