FANTASY PROFILE: David Wright, 3B, New York Mets

David Wright is a good contact hitter with declining power, he has a good chance to bat .300 or better and be a consistent source of RBI’s via singles and doubles. Wright is coming off a very disappointing 2014 season. He only had 8 HR and he was sidelined with a shoulder injury for a portion of the season. The good news is Wright was able to avoid surgery and heal the loose ligaments in his shoulder with rehab. Going into the 2015 season, the Mets are expecting big things from Wright to help with the rest of their mediocre lineup. In addition, Wright had great campaigns in 2012 and 2013, batting .306 and .307 respectively along with 21 HR in 2012 and 18 in 2013.  I like Wright to have a nice bounce back year and I like him as a good buy-low opportunity in fantasy leagues. I expect to see the player this year that we all saw in 2012 and 2013 with his shoulder fully healed.

Over the off-season, Mets brass brought the fences in and hired Kevin Long as their hitting coach. Both of these changes should help Wright have a nice year. The walls in right center were brought in which will benefit Wright because he has shown great power to right center in the past. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Wright to be an All-Star but he will be a great value considering he most likely will be taken late in the draft. Furthermore, Wright will have the protection of Lucas Duda in the lineup which will give Wright better pitches to hit than in years past. One thing to keep in mind with Wright is that he’s shown he’s not the most durable player in baseball. He is also getting older, he is now 32. I would make sure to draft a decent backup in case the injury troubles hit Wright again.
