Athleticism: B+

Has an athletic build and athleticism is good. Has the speed to threaten vertically and can stretch the field. Play speed lives up to timed speed and is a field fast player. Has good burst and acceleration. Very fluid and agile to make sharp turns and to separate from coverage and defenders. Could feature as either a punt returner or a kick returner in the NFL.

Catching: C+

Above average pass catcher. Has very good focus as a receiver which helps to make up for somewhat average hands. Is not intimidated working the middle of the field or in contested catch situations. Able to high-point the fifty-fifty ball and is able to reach over his helmet to secure the catch. Has a limited catching radius and ability to adjust to errant throws may be a concern. Benefitted from a very accurate quarterback as a junior in 2014.

Routes: A-

One of the better route runners in this year’s draft class. Ran a great diversity of routes at USC and was able to sink his hips and make crisp cuts. Shows tempo and mixes in subtle moves and fakes in his routes. Effective with the double move and capable of creating late separation on the deep ball. Is not powerful, and doesn’t have the strength to beat press coverage or succeed against physical defensive backs.

After Catch: B-

Is a talented returner and can pick up yards after the catch as a receiver. Has wiggle after the catch and has the vision to set up his blocks after the catch. Shifty with the ball in his hands. Underpowered after the catch and won’t break many tackles.

Blocking: C

Average overall blocker, but flashes a fiery attitude on the field and has some room for improvement. Aware on outside running plays and takes good angles to the inside as a run blocker. A little more focus would help. Is lean and doesn’t possess the power to consistently cover up defenders on the perimeter.

Red Flags: None

Bottom Line: Nelson Agholor won’t blow anyone away with his hands or athletic ability, but is about as solid as they come. Agholor’s route running ability should peg him as a contributor as a rookie and could develop into a good number three or acceptable number two receiver in the NFL. Works best from the slot and as a returner and figures best in a West Coast offense.

Comparison: Robert Woods

Grade: 8.7 (2nd Round)
