David Krejci Injury Could be Long Term

The way this season has gone for the Boston Bruins, it’s only appropriate that their 6-2 thumping of the Chicago Blackhawks comes with news that they may have also lost their #1 centerman in David Krejci. The 28-year-old out of the Czech Republic left Friday’s contest against the St. Louis Blues with what appears to be a knee injury. Krejci has missed numerous games throughout the season due to different injuries, but the club fears this latest one may be long term. He is set to be re-evaluated once the Bruins return from their current five-game road trip.

Krejci currently sits at 26 points in 38 games and, despite missing a lot of time throughout the campaign, remains a key member of the Bruins roster. Considering the fact that the Bruins sit just barely above the Eastern Conference playoff bar with the Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers just four and three points back of the final wild card spot respectively, his injury could prove to be especially devastating. Krejci led the playoffs in scoring during the Bruins’ run to the Stanley Cup in 2011 and during their run to the Finals in 2013.

*Update: David Krejci will miss 4-6 weeks, per NHL.
