The New York Knicks announced that their star small forward, Carmelo Anthony, underwent successful surgery on his left knee on Wednesday, and will be out for four to six months.
New York Knicks president Phil Jackson refused to go into further details about the actual injury, but did speak about Carmelo Anthony’s recovery. “What we’re finding out from the medical is on the court, it could be four to six months”. Jackson was speaking at a press conference held at the Knicks practice facility. Jackson then went on to say, “We can’t put it at a timetable until after the surgery. But that’s what they’re saying. They say it can be anywhere between four to six months for Carmelo to be back on the floor”.
Carmelo Anthony out for 4-6 Months
Anthony is by far the Knicks best player, especially this season which has been just woeful for the team. Anthony’s knee has been bothering him for some time, and the Knicks have decided that the season is too far gone to recover from, and decided to shut him down for the rest of the year.
Carmelo Anthony’s health is vitally important to the Knicks looking forward. This season may already be over but if the Knicks win the lottery and get the best player available in Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, the future could be a lot brighter for the team. I still have faith in Carmelo Anthony to get a ring before he retires, despite what others think. Melo is a great player and if the Knicks can put a good young big man in Okafor next to him and add the role players to build around these two talents, the club can climb out of the NBA basement and begin to rise towards being a contender again. Make no mistake, there is no quick and even making the playoffs will require some serious work rebuilidng the club. Despite this, and despite the doubters, a healthy Carmelo Anthony is a key to the Knicks future success.
