Before I dive into today’s plays, I want to mention the common occurrence of a “good play” dropping a dud and a “bad play” having a great game. I notice people tend to get way caught up in this. Now, I understand that what defines a good play or bad play for the night can be subjective, but I do not want you to get caught up in a good player having bad nights and a bad player having good night cycle. The guys that win consistently at college basketball understand the difference between bad players playing well and good players playing poorly. You can determine this difference if you are watching a lot of college basketball. If you are strictly looking at game logs to determine how good a player is or how much they’re involved in an offense, your taking the wrong approach. You need to watch as much college basketball as possible if you want to win more often than you lose. Box scores do not paint a clear picture to how a game flowed. The big reason I brought this up is because tonight Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is the same price as Stanley Johnson. Do not be fooled by recent box scores of Hollis-Jefferson outperforming Johnson. Johnson is Arizona’s best player and if he commits will be drafted within the top three picks. He has had a few bad games, but you must continue to ride him. He will be back to his old self in no time and his price is too good to pass up. If you are choosing between the two of them, make the wise choice.
FANTASY CBB PLAYS 2-19-15
Top High Priced Plays
Stanley Johnson -Arizona Forward. Price 7500
To me, this is a no-brainer. This is as low as it gets for Johnson’s price tag and he has a dream match tonight. Arizona is light years better than USC and Johnson can score as often as he wants tonight. Don’t let the blowout scare you as players always get their fair share of minutes in college. The most recent game for Johnson may have driven you away, but I’m here to pull you back.
Troy Williams -Forward Indiana. Price 7800
This game will be one of the fastest paces of the night, so high scoring will be expected. Williams has been rock solid recently and at home plays much better than on the road. Hammons is the same price and also in play, but if I’m playing one of them it will be Williams. He has been very aggressive recently and you can expect another good game from him tonight.
Ryan Boatright -Guard Connecticut. Price 9000
I know it seems like I mention Boatright all the time on here, but he is a model citizen for consistency. With such a high floor and ceiling even $9000 is a good price for him. The match is by no means perfect on the road vs Memphis, but the consistency is always there.
Top Mid Priced Plays
Shaq Goodwin -Forward Memphis. Price 6100
Another 30 point game and his price drops 1100? Is FanDuel just trying to make sure we’re watching college basketball? Nichols has a shot to return tonight, and maybe this went into FanDuel’s thinking, but regardless Goodwin is a good play. This news may not come out in time which may make you debate on playing him. At this price he is a good play with Nichols, but with no Nichols he’s arguably the best play of the night if your talking simply value.
Craig Sword -Guard Mississippi State. Price 6000
Remember when Sword had a stretch of 5-6 games a few weeks ago where he was automatic for value in that $5,000-$6,000 range? Well, he has one bad game and people toss him out of the equation. He’s the best player for Mississippi State and at home he has just been awesome the last few weeks. This game will also have a quicker tempo than Mississippi State is used to as Ole Miss plays quick. This will lead to more possessions and opportunities for Sword in a close home game tonight.
Louis Dabney 5700 -Guard Tulane. Price 5700
Dabney is the best player Tulane has and tonight they are actually a home favorite, with a projected point total of over 65. Tulane has not surpassed more than 55 points in a game in their last six, but tonight will be different. You will want to have someone from here because the prices are good, and I’d prefer to pay up for their best player. Jonathan Stark is over-priced here, but I certainly think Hook is all right as well for a cheaper rate if you aren’t comfortable with Dabney. He’s had a few bad games recently, but he hasn’t had this match-up either.
Top Low Priced Plays
Staphon Blair -Forward Central Florida. Price 5100
Blair has been very consistent as far as usage and minutes go the last four games. I’m not too fond of the idea of owning players on Central Florida on this slate, but Blair can certainly pay off value as he is a big man getting big minutes in a projected close game.
Julian Jacobs -Guard USC. Price 5300
This price is just too low for the amount of usage Jacobs will have tonight. The match is a disaster, but he will be tasked to shoulder whatever load USC has tonight. He has been sensational recently and with McLaughlin doubtful you might need him in your lineups. Stewart is in play as well for minimum price, but by no means expect near the amount of production from his last game. If McLaughlin news comes out that he’s playing, you can safely move away from both plays.
Robert Johnson -Guard Indiana. Price 4800
Johnson is coming off his 4th straight game getting big minutes. While he doesn’t always produce, he is certainly capable of it. He has taken at least 10 shots in three of his last four, so the opportunity is there. Factor in the pace of this game, and if he’s making his three’s, he has a good shot of exceeding his small price tag.
