If the Dallas Stars are going to get back into the Western Conference playoff race, they will have to do so without their leading scorer. Following a dirty clip by Florida Panthers defenceman Dmitri Kulikov on Friday night, centre Tyler Seguin has been placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss the next three to six weeks.

Seguin has 29 goals and 30 assists for 59 points in 55 games so far this season to lead the Stars. The Stars have relied on his chemistry with Jamie Benn to provide a big part of the team’s offense this season.
For his part in the play, Dmitry Kulikov has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL’s department of player safety. The in-person hearing means that the league can suspend Kulikov for five or more games. Kulikov has no previous history of fines or suspensions from the department of player safety.

Dallas currently sits three points behind the Calgary Flames for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, Florida is four points behind the Boston Bruins, with one game in hand, for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
