It has been well documented in WWE for the past few years that AJ Lee is the future of the Divas Division. Unfortunately, the former three time Divas Champion is out injured for the next few months at least and it seems the division is falling apart without her.
AJ was the longest reigning Divas Champion and her feud with Paige was one of the most anticipated female encounters in recent years and was the last real divas rivalry many of the WWE Universe had an invested interest in.
Nikki Bella has been booked as a weak champion since she defeated AJ for the title back at Survivor Series and has since only managed to pick up wins with either help from her sister or by using illegal objects.
Paige is set to face Nikki in just over a weeks time at the inaugural WWE Fastlane event but the match has lacked build up and failed to motivate any sort of interest from most people within the WWE Universe. Especially since the colour of Paige’s skin has played a big role in the build up, with The Bella’s proving that even with the title on their side, they are still the bullies they always have been.
The only hope is that now Charlotte has dropped the NXT Women’s Championship to Sasha Banks, she can now make a proper debut on the main WWE Roster, hopefully this happens next Sunday at the Fastlane event.
NXT Rival’s fatal four way match for the Women’s Championship was one of the best divas matches in a long time and it seemed like the perfect way for Charlotte to make her exit from the development territory.
That being said, there are apparently many officials in WWE that are not a fan of Charlotte because she doesn’t “look” the way traditional WWE Divas look. But Paige and AJ Lee weren’t WWE’s traditional divas when they were signed either and looks should never be taken over ability.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I would rather have someone like Charlotte, who is single handedly re-defining the term diva, than Nikki Bella, who many feel has done nothing in the few months she has held the Divas Championship.
WWE have a second generation diva in Charlotte, who has the technique and skill to revive the current women’s division and if they book her right, she could maximize her debut into a rivalry that will eclipse the division much like Kaitlyn and AJ did back in 2013.
Charlotte and Natalya had a storied rivalry and one of the best divas matches WWE have ever seen last year and this could be a rivalry for WWE to fall back on and have two of the most deserving divas in the company right now, fight over the biggest prize for the women in the business.
With Wrestlemania just around the corner and WWE wanting to keep the WWE Universe on side, it seems now could be the right time to call up Charlotte and allow her to showcase her ability on the grandest stage of them all.
