FANTASY PROFILE: JOE PANIK, 2B, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

LWOS Ranking 30, Captain’s Value: $2.65

Joe Panik made his major league debut in 2014, hitting .305 in 73 games. The one positive from his first season was that he had a strong batting average. One thing that helped keep his average up was a .343 BABIP. If his luck on batted balls in play regresses, this could lead to a substantial decrease in his batting average.

If this were to happen, this would take away his already limited value. While he had a solid batting average last year, his power was nearly non-existent as he only hit 1 HR in 286 PA. His minor league numbers do not indicate that he will contribute in this area in the future as he has had single-digit HR totals every year that he was in the minor leagues.  It also does not help that he plays his home games at AT&T Park which is notoriously unfriendly towards power numbers.
