Could Harry Kane Be England’s International Saviour?

Considering his incredible recent form, could Harry Kane be the saviour English football needs?

If there has been one common occurance throughout English football this season, it must be the emerging talent that is Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

Could Harry Kane Be England’s International Saviour?

The 21-year-old Englishman has taken advantage of the North London clubs limited striking options with two hands, scoring 23 goals in 35 games so far this season, sparking many to believe that he may be the key to his country at the international level.

Kane, who is yet to make a senior appearance for England, is wildly expected to be involved in Roy Hodgson’s next squad for March’s clashes with Lithuania and Italy. Both fixtures would be ideal situations to introduce the East London born striker to the international stage, with Lithuania being a mediocre talent in World Football and the Italy clash being only a friendly.

This would be the perfect time to introduce the striker to the big stage, to get a feel what the international level is like, without being hoisted into a crucial qualifying game.

His performances against top class Premier League opposition has beggared belief as to how this young man flew so low under the radar before this season. Especially the performance against Chelsea on New Year’s Day, where Kane single handily dismantled the current league leaders and one of the best defences in European football.

Kane scored twice, demonstrating a full repertoire of a Shearer-esque number 9, one a 25 yard drill into the bottom of a helpless Thibaut Courtois’ net and the other a brilliant half turn before calmly slotting it beyond the Belgian keeper again.

So can Kane spear-head an England XI? A huge part of Harry Kane’s success relies on creative midfielders like Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Moussa Dembele, a characteristic that you wouldn’t associate with anyone in the English national side. Besides Raheem Sterling, there is no one in the squad who could hold a candle to Danish playmaker Eriksen when it comes to playmaking ability.

England’s strength offensively is the pace on the wings, demonstrated by their two goals in the world cup which came from two crosses into the area. With the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and the aformentioned Raheem Sterling potentially on the wings, Kane’s heading ability may be the key to his international success. His fade away header may be a sample of what to expect from the young man at the top level. We certainly hope he can live up to his potential.
