Fantasy Profile: Brian Dozier, 2B, Minnesota Twins

In the first half, Brian Dozier seemed to possibly be on the verge of a 30/20 season. In the second half, he seemed like just an average 2nd baseman.

FANTASY PROFILE: BRIAN DOZIER, 2B, MINNESOTA TWINS

LWOS Ranking 7, Captain’s Value: $9.98

Brian Dozier was the tale of two hitters in 2014. In the First half, he was a scorching home run masher who seemed to possibly be on the verge of a 30/20 season. During the second half, he played like an average 2nd baseman, a far stretch from his first half heroics. While we wouldn’t expect numbers like his first half,  something in between his first and second half isn’t out of the question.

Mostly used as a lead off hitter because of his ability to get on-base (3rd in the AL in walks with 89), Dozier was 2nd in the AL with 112 runs. While this didn’t really help Dozier’s power numbers (it would make sense to slot him 2nd for this very reason) he did steal over 20 bases. Dozier will probably never get the elite chances at RBI (much like Brandon Phillips the past couple of years) but he is a solid option at second base.

While a low batting average will plague Dozier in some leagues, he’s easily a top 5 2nd baseman if he can even bump up his average by .10-15 points. The spacious confines of Target Field can’t contain his power, as he had almost a symmetrical home / road split for his stats (11 home runs at home & 12 home runs away, .421 SLG at home & .412 SLG away), so he’s clearly got good power. Considering he’s just entering his prime at 27, Dozier could continue to grow and maybe become an all-star for the next couple of years, assuming that his 2nd half isn’t more reflective on who he is as a player.
