FANTASY PROFILE: ARISMENDY ALCANTARA, 2B, CHICAGO CUBS
LWOS Raking 21, Captain’s Value: $4.64
Arismendy Alcantara showed great promise at Triple-A in 2014, hitting 10 HR and stealing 21 bags in only 89 games. He showed his power-speed potential when he was called up by the Cubs in mid-July, hitting 10 HR with 8 SB. Alcantara is eligible at both second base and outfield, and will likely be the team’s starting third basemen until Kris Bryant gets called up. However, Alcantara only hit .205 for the Cubs and had 93 strikeouts in 70 games played. He has a great deal to learn, but at 23 years old, his upside can’t be ignored.
Drafting a player eligible at three positions that could go for 20HR/20SB in the later rounds is a huge steal. Alcantara is a great pick due to his power/speed combo, especially at a weak 2B position. If he hit lefties better and put the ball in play more often, Alcantara could become a top ten fantasy second basemen this season.
