August is my favorite month of the year. The weather is nice, the water is cool and football is right around the corner. Not only is football right around the corner, but it is Fantasy Football Draft season! We here at lastwordonsports.com don’t feel like it is right to have to wait till August to do a fantasy football mock draft. Why wait to pretend to draft guys, to play in our pretend football leagues? So we will do a 10 team PPR (Points Per Reception) mock draft. We will bring it to you one round at a time.
Fantasy Football Mock Draft 2015. Round 2
We start round two at pick number 11
Calvin Johnson- The consensus number one fantasy wide receiver heading in to 2014; Calvin was poised for big things. Yet, once again injuries hindered Johnson from his massive potential. Johnson is still the best receiver in the league, and Matt Stafford still can’t live without him. If Johnson plays all 16 games next year, he will likely be the highest scoring fantasy receiver. Which would make him a steal any where in the second round.
Coppola (Team 10)
Lesean McCoy- LeSean Mccoy frustrated owners in 2014, ceding carries to Chris Polk at the goal-line and catches to Sproles. Still just 26 years old, LeSean is the top option running behind a great line, in a Chip Kelly system. Talent and opportunity is a match made in fantasy heaven.
Pissari (Team 9)
Arian Foster- The Texans offense functions through Foster first. Although Foster is NOT a bruiser that wants to pound the rock through the A gap 35 times a game, he does have power when needed. His pass catching skills are among the best. Arian Foster has the best vision of any running back in the game right now. When Foster is on the field, he is grinding out yards and bowing to the crowd after every touchdown. Foster’s only downside is a habit of pulling hamstrings and getting banged up.
Fabber (Team 8)
Jordy Nelson- Jordy Nelson surprised a lot of people with his success in 2014. He asked for a new contract in the off season and, although there was speculation. The Packers showed faith, and gave him exactly what he wanted. He returned the favor with 13 touchdowns, six 100 yard receiving games and an additional 200 yard game. More than that, he solidified himself as the number one receiving option for the best quarterback in the NFL. That is a good thing for fantasy football owners. Aaron Rodgers loves throwing the ball deep down the field to Jordy Nelson. Jordy has what it takes to give you 15 points on one play any given Sunday. Do I have to say more than that?
Bowman (Team 7)
Rob Gronkowski- GRONK! I really need no further explanation for this pick, but I’ll give you a short one anyway. Jimmy Graham was (for the most part) a first round pick in all formats in 2014. He played like “The common tight end” this year. Up and down, week by week. Gronk has no down, Gronk Is all up baby. Not most weeks… Every week… Not sometimes… All the time. His strength + size + athleticism + hands = An algorithm impossible for defenses to solve. Getting this monster in the mid-second round of this draft makes this a GRONKtastic pick.
Wolf (Team 6)
Odell Beckam Jr.- Who saw this coming at the beginning of 2014? I had a feeling he was going to be better than advertised, but WHOA! After missing his first 4 games due to a bum leg, He made his first start in week 5 and caught a touchdown pass. After that game, Odell was the best wide receiver in 2014. Eli was struggling badly in (new offensive coordinator) Ben McAdoo’s new system he brought to New York from Green Bay. OBJ arrived on scene and changed all of that. He finished this year with pro bowl statistics, and did it minus 4 games. With the opportunity to put in an entire off-season/pre-season with his team this year, I see big things in 2015 for Mr. Beckam.
Nick (Team 5)
Demaryius Thomas- The only reason this guy has dropped this far is the trepidation that Manning’s better days are over. Manning should be fine and Demarius Thomas is his favorite, and most talented passing threat. Thomas started the 2014 season slow because he was working through an injury. After the bye in week 4, Thomas mended his ailing leg and was back to embarrassing defenses with his playmaking. We all saw the decline of Manning towards the end of the season; throwing passes that in no way resembled spirals. Thomas still found a way to get in the right place to catch those wobblers. While Manning’s numbers (and tosses) declined sharply, Thomas did what a top flight wide out does. He continued to make plays and produce fantasy points week in and week out.
Mike (Team 4)
Jeremy Hill- Another big surprise in 2014, Hill bulldozed his way in to the featured back position by the end of the season. Giovanni Bernard was going as high as the late first round in some fantasy drafts last season. Rightfully so, He showed huge potential in 2013. Unfortunately for those who drafted Bernard, Jeremy Hill is a better overall NFL running back. Hill has a massive frame and break away speed, a rare combination in the sport today. Gio started the season in the featured roll but as the weeks went by Hill got more and more carries. He delivered. It is likely Hill will begin the year with the starting role and pay off this (somewhat) risky pick.
Coach (Team 3)
Julio Jones- Why can’t Matt Ryan get this guy the ball more often? Julio Jones has raw football talent often unmatched by any player on the field with him. In a struggling offense he still managed to finish the season 3rd in receiving yards. Yet 2014 fantasy owners were disenchanted by his 6 touchdown contribution. Dan Quinn is coming to the A.T.L. to bring some North West defensive swag. Every defensive stop is another opportunity to get Jones the ball. Julio has an issue worth considering with injuries from year to year, but his talent combined with an offense built to pass, makes Julio Jones an annual first/second round fantasy wide out option.
Casey (Team 2)
Justin Forsett-
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
I’m just in for…
I’m just in for who?
I’m Justin Forsett! I rocked the fantasy world in 2014!
Okay, seriously though…
Justin Forsett is a slick versatile back. Although typically built to go outside he does have the toughness to take it inside a few times a game. Many never heard of Forsett before this year. Some might be surprised to know Forsett had nearly 1000 yards from scrimmage and 5.4 yards per carry (YPC) in 2009 for the Seahawks. This is the first year he has been used as a featured back and once again posted an amazing 5.4 YPC, leading the NFL for running backs. Forsett will turn 30 during the 2015 season and as of now, he is a free agent. With the news that (former head coach of the Chicago Bears) Mark Trestman was headed to run The Balimore Ravens offense. I made up my mind that Trestman would not let a back like Forsett walk. With Forsett’s ability to run in open space intertwined with Trestman’s intricate offensive scheming, things should pop off in Baltimore and (more importantly) your fantasy football lineup next year.
Eric (Team 1)
