National Signing Day: Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies picked up five-star recruits Daylon Mack and Kyler Murray to add to a list of three and four-star recruits on National Signing Day.

Texas A&M Head Coach Kevin Sumlin looked relaxed as he walked down the halls that housed the football team’s offices. At 12:30 p.m. five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack was about to announce live on television which school he would choose to sign with. Mack had verbally committed to Texas A&M many months ago but in early January he decommitted and there was talk that Texas and TCU might be able to flip him.

Sumlin was right to be unconcerned about the impending announcement as Mack confirmed his intent to join Texas A&M on the same day that five-star quarterback Kyler Murray ended weeks of speculation by also choosing the Aggies. It summed up a good national signing day for the Aggies, as they locked up their three remaining commits and also added Daylon Mack from a list of three potential recruits.

The signing of Mack could immediately help a defense that struggled mightily last year and no doubt the success that Myles Garrett had as a true freshman for the Aggies was a key factor. It showed that Mack could see lots of playing time in his first year at College Station. The signing of Kyler Murray means  there will be another interesting camp battle for the starting job with true sophomore Kyle Allen returning after winning the job in the second half of last season.

Elsewhere, the Aggies added lots of depth at key positions like the offensive line and linebacker with a number of four and three-star recruits. ESPN has Texas A&M ranked #12 in their class rankings for 2015. which marks the first time in three years that the Aggies have been outside the top ten.
