Super Bowl XLIX Recap: New England Patriots Win in Thriller Over Seattle Seahawks

Super Bowl XLIX came down to the final seconds. After Seattle Seahawks elected to throw rather than run, the New England Patriots intercepted to win 28-24

The New England Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks. It was a classic battle that came down to final seconds. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes in leading an impressive comeback from ten points down to win 28-24.

Scoring Started Slowly

The game started slowly with no score at the end of the first quarter. But, the fireworks began late in the second quarter. The Patriots got on the board first with a 11-yard touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell. Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch countered with 3-yard touchdown right before the first half two-minute warning.

The Patriots marched 80 yards and threw a touchdown to Rob Gronkowski with 31 seconds remaining the half. the Seahawks were able to tie the game 14-14 at half with a 11-yard touchdown pass to Chris Matthews. Mathews was cut by his Canadian Football League (CFL) team before joining the Seahawks.

After Seahawks took a three point lead with a field goal early in the third quarter, another Brady interception led to another Seattle touchdown. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw a 3-yard touchdown to Doug Baldwin.

Patriots’ Furious 4th Quarter Comeback

The Patriots mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter with two more touch down passes. The first was Brady to Danny Amendola for 4-yards with 7;55 to go in the game. With 2:02 left, Brady threw a 3-yard touchdown to Edelman.

Worst Call in Super Bowl History

Then came possibly the worst call in Super Bowl history. The Seahawks had Lynch run the ball to the one yard line. Facing second down, Carroll elected to have Wilson throw the ball, rather than run. Lynch had been unstoppable all game.

Patriots Malcolm Butler intercepted the ill-timed pass and the Patriots held on to win Super Bowl XLIX. While the Seahawks will forever lament the potential win in their sights, it was a great Super Bowl.
