On March 14th, North American Soccer League Club New York Cosmos will travel to EL Salvador to take on C.D. FAS in a preseason friendly. The match will be played at Cuscatlán Stadium located in San Salvador.

The Cosmos announced this past week that they have partnered up with Fundacion Educando a Un Salvadoreno (FESA) which will consist of sporting and social community projects. The proceeds from this particular match will benefit in assisting the construction of a FESA High School.

C.D. FAS, located in Santa Ana, play in the Primera Division in El Salvador and is considered one of the most prestigious clubs in the league. FAS, as they are commonly known as, have won 17 league titles since their inception in 1947. The club has won the CONCACAF Champions Cup and has made three appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Cosmos believe that the time is right to build a relationship between the organization and the Salvadoran community that has embraced the style of play that the Cosmos have brought into the NASL. FESA and the Cosmos feel that both organizations will benefit from the partnership.

Cuscatlán Stadium opened in 1976 and is currently home to two Primera Clubs, Alianza FC and Atletico Marte. The El Salvador National Team also calls Cuscatlán Stadium home. In 2014, the stadium hosted World Cup Qualifying matches. The Cosmos will be making their first trip to Central America and playing in the legendary stadium.

This is a very exciting time for the club as they will travel to El Salvador after they visit Hong Kong. The Cosmos will be playing the South China Football Team on February 19th in the 2015 Lunar New Year AET Cup.

The South China Football Team was founded in 1904 and currently plays in the Hong Kong Premier League. Since the team’s inception, they have captured a staggering total of 41 1st Division Titles. As for this current season, the club sits in 3rd place.

The Lunar New Year AET Cup was created in 1948 by the Hong Kong Football Association. The matches are usually played on the 1st and 4th days of the Chinese New Year Celebrations. During the years spanning from 1983 until 2006, the event was known as the Carlsberg Cup as Carlsberg was the main sponsor and in 2011 and 2012, the event was known as the Asia Challenge Cup. 1950 was the first year that an overseas club was invited to participate in the Cup Challenge.

The Cosmos will return back to the States after the match against C.D. FAS and focus their attention on the upcoming NASL Season which for New York, will begin on the road against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers on April 4th. April 18th will be the date that the Cosmos fans will be looking forward to since that will be the home debut of the club’s newest acquisition, Raul. The match will be played against another Florida Club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
