FANTASY PROFILE: JAMES LONEY, 1B, TAMPA BAY RAYS
LWOS Ranking 23, Captain’s Value $5.44
James Loney turned 30 last season and after several years in the majors, it is pretty clear what can be expected out of him. The primary thing keeping Loney within the top 25 is that he is useful in the batting average category. He has a career .285 AVG and he has hit above .290 in both of his seasons in Tampa Bay. Also, Loney can be counted on to stay healthy as he’s appeared in at least 144 games every season since 2008.
Even if he is a slightly above average hitter (109 wRC+ last year ) by overall standards, by First Base fantasy standards, his power production is very mediocre. Last year, he hit 9 Home Runs and has only hit more than 13 once in his career. In addition, he has been putting up very pedestrian totals in the Runs Scored & RBI totals over the last few seasons.
