FANTASY PROFILE: MARK TEIXEIRA, 1B, NEW YORK YANKEES

LWOS Ranking 21, Captain’s Value $3.00

The production coming from Mark Teixeira is much lower than it was early in his career. While he could be counted on early in his career to have a batting average in the .290-.300 range, those days have come and gone. At first glance, it seems like his .216 batting average could be blamed on a very low BABIP total (.233). However, this BABIP is within normal ranges in comparison to the last few seasons, indicating a batting average above .230 may be too much to ask for.

While a large portion of his power has left his bat as he moves towards his mid 30’s, Teixeira is still capable of hitting 20-25 Home Runs per season. While these power totals are at least respectable, the one question to ask is whether they are worth the price of being saddled with a very low batting average attached.
