The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed star goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on injured reserve, retroactive to January 21st with a groin injury. The 2013 Vezina Trophy winner, who recently signed a four-year extension with the club, suffered the injury in a game against the Winnipeg Jets last week. Blue Jackets general manager Jarko Kekalainen made the announcement today.
Bobrovsky was named an all-star, for the annual game where he would have been a home-town hero in Columbus this weekend, however he missed the festivities due to the injury and was replaced by Brian Elliott of the St. Louis Blues.
Bobrovsky has a 16-15-2 record with a 2.85 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and one shutout in 33 games for the Blue Jackets this season. Bobrovsky is 69-46-13 with a 2.39 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and 10 shutouts in 129 games with Columbus since being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Blue Jackets recalled goaltender Anton Forsberg on an emergency basis to take Bobrovsky’s roster spot. They have also recalled forward Josh Anderson from their AHL affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts. Back-up goaltender Curtis McElhinney is expected to be given the start in the Jackets next game at home to the Washington Capitals tomorrow.
Anderson, 20, made his NHL debut on January 16th against the New York Rangers and has suited up in four games this season but is still looking for his first NHL point.
Forsberg, 22, recorded 26 saves in his NHL debut on November 1st in a 3-2 loss at New Jersey. He is 0-1-0 with a 5.30 goals-against average and .841 save percentage in two games with Columbus this season.
