Road To Gold Cup: US Men’s Friendlies Roster Announced

The Roster for the US Men's Frendlies against Chile and Panama has been announced and features veteran Clint Dempsey, and newcomer Gyasi Zardes.

Jurgen Klinsmann has named is 23-man roster for the upcoming international friendlies. The Yanks will take on Chile on Wednesday in Santiago at 5 pm EST and can be seen on Fox Sports 1. They will then host Panama on Sunday, February 8 in Los Angeles, CA and can be seen on ESPN. The kickoff for that match has not been set.

The squad will feature stars such as Clint Dempsey and Micheal Bradley as well as newcomers like Gyasi Zardes, Wil Trapp, and Matt Hedges. Of the 23 players, 20 are based in MLS. Eight players from the 2014 World Cup squad are in the team.

Six of the 29 who partook in January Camp will return to their club teams: Tesho Akindele (FC Dallas), Alex Bono (Toronto FC), Christian Dean (Vancouver Whitecaps), Oscar Sorto (LA Galaxy), Dennis Flores (Club Leon/Mexico) and Julio Morales (Tepic/Mexico). Marc Pelosi (Liverpool/England) will rejoin the team for training when the return from Chile.

All of these cuts were expected, as the U-23 players were in this camp for experience and preparation for Olympic qualification. It is unclear if any changes will be made between friendlies beyond the possible inclusion of Marc Pelosi in the Panama match.
