Fantasy booking – Royal Rumble entrants

The Royal Rumble match is just days away and being the most surprising match of the year, we all have ideas of who we want to return on Sunday night, but who are the people we wish could return, but probably won’t?

Fantasy booking – Royal Rumble entrants

Shane McMahon

The one member of the McMahon family that left and has since stayed gone. Shane was never the best wrestler in the ring, but him being the son of Vince McMahon allowed him to become one of the best protagonists in the WCW/WWF era.

Whilst a lot has been said about Vince and if he will return to the Triple H/Sting storyline, it’s unlikely because of his age that he will step in the ring again. Shane is much younger. Shane could take a lot of offence to what Triple H and Stephanie have been doing in WWE and what they have done to a company he could have been set to inherit.

I think Shane in the Rumble would make sense because he could go after Big Show and Kane, the members of The Authority that are already on the outside before he went after Triple H and Seth Rollins and reveal that he was behind Sting’s appearances.

Shawn Michaels

HBK returned Monday night on Raw and for me, there were too many hints about him being out of shape for it to be honest. Shawn tried to tell Triple H how to do his job backstage and it seemed like Triple H wasn’t a big fan of it. As well as this, Shawn shockingly predicted Bray would be the one to win the Royal Rumble.

I think a heel return for Shawn could work just so that he could be part of the Rumbl. He wouldn’t need to have a program for Wrestlemania. He could just be a part of The Rumble for old times sake and to set up a few feuds whilst in there.

Goldberg

Brock Lesnar is leaving soon, be it at the Rumble or at Wrestlemania. Roman Reigns is not ready to be the “beast” of WWE. This could mean there is an opening for Bill Goldberg. Roman and Goldberg could have a fantastic rivalry after Wrestlemania.

They already use the same finishing move. It’s like a rivalry that doesn’t need to be written and it could be the making of Roman Reigns under the guidance of someone of Goldberg’s calibre.

Mick Foley

The hardcore legend hasn’t been seen in WWE for a while and put on one of his best performances back at Wrestlemania 22 when he went one on one with Edge in a Hardcore match.

I think a Mick Foley/Bray Wyatt feud could be a great substitute if The Undertaker isn’t available for Wrestlemania this year. Mick is as crazy as they come, he put his body on the line every time he stepped inside that ring, be it a hardcore match or a Hell in a Cell match. Bray has the persona that he is crazy whilst also being quite in control. Mick Foley is just crazy and as a match or a battle of the beards that could begin inside the Royal Rumble and lead to Wrestlemania. I think this could be a definite fantasy booking.

Edge

If only he could wrestle again. Edge would be the perfect superstar to make a return and steal the show again this year. Edge could continue his feud with Seth Rollins even if he picks up the World Title. Two of the best superstars WWE have at their disposal, they would tear it up.

Forget the Daniel Bryan or Roman Reigns royal rumble winner debate, Edge could win and get revenge on Seth Rollins by taking away the title he wins at The Rumble, only for Seth to cash in his Money in the Bank and win it back. But at least he had another final Wrestlemania match… right?

CM Punk

I don’t even have to list the reasons CM Punk would be fantastic in this match. He’s never won it, he’s never main-evented Wrestlemania and always wanted to. He would love to mess up any plans Triple H already had.

CM Punk has also never held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in its current combined form and whilst he says he’s over the WWE and heading to UFC, I think a main event shot at Wrestlemania and a World Title run would take him out of hiding (for fantasy sake). He said himself he is a goal orientated person and he would have accomplished one of his goals. He could move away from WWE then, say a proper goodbye and leave in a appropriate manner.

The Undertaker

The Deadman is doubtful for Wrestlemania two months away, so coming back at the Rumble is completely out of the question. But, what if we have it all wrong? What if Undertaker versus Sting was the match for Wrestlemania and Undertaker came back for Sting?

He could win the Royal Rumble and then instead of choosing a title for the main event of Wrestlemania, he could decide he wants to face an opponent and that would be Sting. It’s never been done before, but it could be done. WWE are all for breaking rules, so why not?

As stated above, it is highly unlikely any of the above will play a part in Sunday’s 30-man battle royal. But imagine if one of them did. The Rumble is full of shocks and surprises and any one of these guys could be just that.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan

The Legend who is known for his 2×4, he is also well known for his USA flag and his patriotism, that’s why he would be perfect to come out as a surprise entrant and eliminate Rusev from the Royal Rumble. Rusev isn’t ready for the push that would come with winning the Rumble and needs to be eliminated in a way that keeps him looking strong as well.

Duggan would be perfect for this, the crowd would be completely behind him and he wouldn’t need to return again. He could just be a complete one off. He doesn’t deserve to be handed to Rusev in a one-on-one match and he couldn’t be the first person to pin him, but he could create one of the memorable moments of the 2015 Rumble.

It took four people to eliminate Rusev at last year’s event and after the run he has been on, this needs to be topped. I think Duggan could be the guy to top it (as long as he used the 2×4).
