Fantasy Profile: Mike Zunino, C, Seattle Mariners
Pos. Rank 18, Captains Value $-6.88
The good news is that Mike Zunino hit 22 HR last year and looks on track to replicate that total again this year. Just about everything else regarding Zunino falls under bad news. His batting average of .199 last year is bad enough to sabotage the batting average category. There is little indication that this area is going to improve in the coming year.
Besides his .199 AVG from 2014, one red flag that indicates substantial improvement is unlikely is how his plate discipline trended. In 52 games in 2013, he had a high K% (25.4) but a respectable (8.3%) BB Rate. Last year, Zunino’s numbers in both areas trended in the wrong direction as he struck out in 33.2% of plate appearances and only walked in 3.6% of his plate appearances. Bottom line, Zunino is likely to hit home runs but that power is likely to be costly in other categories.
