FANTASY PROFILE: JASON CASTRO, C, HOUSTON ASTROS

Pos. rank 17, Captains Value $-2.02

As it stands right now, Castro is a low-end #2 catcher in large leagues and 2-catcher leagues, but is not worth owning in standard leagues. The biggest question mark surrounding him is what team he will play for in 2015. Houston’s offseason acquisition of Hank Conger puts four catchers on the 40-man roster (Carlos Corporan and Max Stassi are the other two), one too many. This has led to rumors that Castro will likely be traded in 2015. After an All-Star season in 2013, Jason Castro was a complete bust in 2014. 18 homers and a .276 average (thanks greatly to an inflated BABIP) in 2013 garnered big expectations for the Astros backstop, but Castro saw his numbers go down across the board, raising questions of whether 2013 was a fluke. However, his career history suggests a rebound is possible. After showing a decent K% and BB% throughout his career, both rates bombed in 2014, leaving nowhere to go but up.
