The deconstruction and rebuilding of the Atlanta Braves continues. After moving out Jason Heyward and Justin Upton earlier in the off-season, the Braves have now moved catcher/outfielder Evan Gattis to the Houston Astros for a trio of prospects. In return the Braves will recieve Michael Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz and Andrew Thurman. The deal has not yet been officially announced as it is pending a physical.
#Braves have traded Evan Gattis to the #Astros for trio of prospects, I’m told by source.

Evan Gattis, 28, hit.263/.317/.493 with 22 homers in 401 plate appearances last year, but he also struck out 97 times. He is a defensive liability, especially in the outfield, and perhaps the move to the American League where he can potentially be the Astros everyday designated hitter could be good for his career and see that he gets more playing time and at bats. He adds some right handed power to the Astros lineup and can be used to catch on occassion.
Foltynewicz, 23, is a right-handed starter, and was the Astros’ first round pick in 2010. He was ranked the teams #4 prospect by Baseball America last year. He spent most of last season in Triple-A, putting up a 7-7 record and 5.08 ERA. He also pitched a few innings in the bigs.
Ruiz, 20, is a third baseman who played in high-A ball last year. He hit .293/.387/.436.
Thurman, 23, is also a right-handed starting pitcher, and was the Astros second round pick in 2013 out of U-C Irvine. He pitched in A-Ball last season.
