Top Oregon WR Darren Carrington Suspended for Championship Game

The Oregon Ducks will be without starting wide receiver Darren Carrington when they play Ohio State for the national championship Monday night. Carrington failed a NCAA drug test and has been suspended for the game. The Ducks arrived in Arlington, Texas tonight for their final preparations for Monday, but the redshirt freshman did not make the trip with the team. The specifics of the test, such as when it was administered or when the results were learned, were not released by the University of Oregon or the NCAA.

Aaron Fentress of CSNNW is reporting that the failed test, was due to the presence of marijuana in Carrington’s system. Oregon appealed the suspension but has already had that appeal heard and denied.

Carrington is second on the team in receiving yards with 704 and fourth on the team in receptions with 37. He was coming off the best game of his career , having caught 7 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Florida State in the Rose Bowl last week. He also had 126 receiving yards in the Pac-12 title game.

The Ducks offense was already going to be without redshirt freshman receiver Devon Allen who injured his knee playing special teams on the opening kickoff during the Rose Bowl. Allen had a team leading seven touchdown receptions and was second in receptions with 41 and third on the team in receiving with 684 yards.
