Texas A&M Quarterback Kenny Hill is to leave College Station after losing the starting job midway through the 2014 season according to Travis Haney from ESPN. Hill lost the starting job to true freshman Kyle Allen after the 59-0 loss to Alabama and never won it back. He was also suspended for two games for breaking team rules.
Kenny Hill exploded onto the college football scene with a flawless performance in the Aggies season opener at South Carolina. The Aggies won 52-28 with Hill throwing for over 500 yards and three touchdowns. He was mentioned by some as a sleeper Heisman Trophy candidate over the next few games as Texas A&M cruised through an easy out of conference schedule.
Unfortunately for Hill, things started to unravel in back-to-back losses against Mississippi State and Ole Miss, where he clearly struggled now that teams were prepared for him. Additionally, the injury to senior wide receiver Malcome Kennedy also didn’t help a talented but inexperienced group. Hill’s season came to a head in the embarrassing loss at Alabama where he was benched in the second half for Kyle Allen and never saw the field again for the Aggies. The suspension then put Hill in Kevin Sumlin’s bad books whilst Kyle Allen managed to lead the Aggies to a surprise win at Auburn as well as a win against Louisiana Monroe.
It seems unlikely that Hill would have much of a chance to win back a starting role in College Station with Kyle Allen impressing in his first season. The Aggies are currently poised to have five-star recruit Kyler Murray join them this summer, as he is verbally committed but won’t be an official recruit until national signing day in early February 2015.
Reports suggest that Hill may transfer to TCU as the long term replacement for Trevone Boykin. Due to Hill playing last year as Johnny Manziel’s backup, he hasn’t had a redshirt year so he could transfer and sit for a year without losing a year of eligibility. This means he would be eligible to play for the Horned Frogs in 2016 after Boykin graduates.
