Deal Almost Done: Wilfried Bony to Manchester City

According to reports, the deal to take Swansea City’s Wilfried Bony to Manchester City is almost complete. The deal is set to cost the Manchester club £30 million.

The two parties are not far from reaching an agreement and are yet to agree on for value the 26-year-old. The transfer could be done and announced as early as Wednesday.

Bony will be on duty for Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and is due to join the Ivorian camp on Wednesday. However the Swansea City man will agree on personal terms with Manchester City and have medicals before leaving for the Middle East to join his countrymen.

Having scored 16 goals last season for Swansea, he was linked to so many clubs but Swansea managed to keep him at the Liberty City Stadium. Bony is the leading goal scorer in 2014 in the Premier League with 20 goals and has 9 goals this season. The Swansea striker signed a new contract three months ago to remove his £19m release clause in his deal.

Manchester City need a striker to solve their striking problem with all their strikers struggling with injuries. The club believe Bony could be the answer to their problems. He offers an alternative dimension to the two favoured strikers Stevan Jovetic and Sergio Aguero and this could spell the end of Edin Dzeko’s time at the Etihad Stadium.

Bony’s target man abilities make him an ideal foil for a refined finisher, such as Aguero, to play with and he can work equally well on his own – something that Manuel Pellegrini will have considered before pursuing the Ivorian. Another benefit to signing Bony is that he won’t be cup-tied for the Champions League, which is a competition that City’s owners will want to see progression in, even with a daunting tie against Barcelona looming.
