BREAKING: Jon Jones Tests Positive For Cocaine, Enters Rehab

It has been reported and confirmed by the UFC that current UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones has entered rehab after testing positive in his pre-fight drug test for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite in cocaine.

It should also be noted that Jones tested positive in a test conducted on December 4, 2014. A second test, closer to the fight itself did not come back as positive for the metabolite.

Jon Jones win over Daniel Cormier this past weekend will not be overturned as the metabolite was not found in the pre-fight drug test. Therefore it was not considered to be an in-competition test.

According to Appendix One of the WADA code, which the Nevada State commission follows in-competition is defined thusly:

“Unless provided otherwise in the rules of an international Federation or the ruling body of the event in question, ‘In-Competition’ means the period commencing twelve hours before a Competition in which the athlete is scheduled to participate through the end of such Competition and the Sample collection process related to such Competition.”

The definition of out-of-competition is a little easier to understand:

“Any period which is not In-Competition.”

Jon Jones released a statement to Yahoo, apologizing to his fans, friends, family and the UFC.

“I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy,” Jon Jones said.

The UFC tweeted out their official statement on the matter at 6pm EST.
