We’re officially into conference play in this college basketball season, and this is a time where I like to look at some recruiting rankings. In the 2015 class, according to ESPN’s rankings, seven of the top ten recruits have not committed. We’ll take a look at each one: where they could go, and what kind of player they could be in the future.
Top College Basketball Recruits 2015
#1 Ben Simmons– Louisana State University
#2 Jaylen Brown, 6’7″, 220 lbs, SF
Alpharetta, GA. Wheeler High School
Interested: Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas
Jaylen Brown has a seemingly unlimited amount of potential, and it shows with his veracious dunks. Many people would even rank Brown as the number one player in this class. He should be an instant impact player in the college game next season.
Prediction: Kansas
#3 Malik Newman, 6’3″, 175 lbs, SG
Jackson, MS. Callaway High School
Interested: Kentucky, Mississippi State, Kansas
Malik Newman can shoot the ball like no other. He has been proclaimed as the best scorer of this class, and it’s easy to see why. His shooting ability can open up driving lanes for him, and he uses that to his advantage.
Prediction: Kentucky
#4 Henery Ellenson– Marquette
#5 Ivan Rabb, 6’11”, 210 lbs, PF
Oakland, CA. Bishop O’Dowd High School
Interested: California, Arizona, North Carolina
Ivan Rabb can do a little bit of everything at the power forward position. He shows off his athleticism, shooting touch, passing ability, and the potential for elite defense. However, Rabb could benefit from gaining some muscle.
Prediction: Arizona
#6 Diamond Stone, 6’11”, 250 lbs, C
Milwaukee, WI. Dominican High School
Interested: Connecticut, Wisconsin, Kentucky
Diamond Stone is a big boy, but he does have some finesse in his game. He is very diligent with his post game, and usually makes good decisions. Personally, I see a lot of Dakari Johnson in his game.
Prediction: Kentucky
#7 Chieck Diallo, 6’9″, 225 lbs, PF
Centereach, NY. Our Savior American School
Interested: Kansas, Kentucky, Pittsburgh
Chieck Diallo is a superb athlete. He has long arms that helps him block anything that comes toward the rim, and he can corral rebounds on both sides of the floor. He should make an early impact on the defensive side of the ball. To say the least, I’m pleasantly surprised by Diallo’s progression.
Prediction: Kansas
#8 Caleb Swanigan, 6’8″, 275 lbs, C
Fort Wayne, IN. Homestead High School
Interested: Michigan State, Louisville, Arizona
Caleb Swanigan is an old-school type of player at it’s finest. He doesn’t have great athleticism, but he throws his weight around smartly. He gets great position when posting up, and uses a feather touch around the rim to finish. He will face bigger competition in college, but he will adjust accordingly.
Prediction: Michigan State
#9 Chase Jeter- Duke
#10 Stephen Zimmerman, 7’0″, 230 lbs, C
Las Vegas, NV. Bishop Gorman High School
Interested: Arizona, Kentucky, UNLV
Stephen Zimmerman plays with a passion every game, and coaches love that about him. He has good skills around the basket including a nice 15 foot jumper. He will be a nice get for a team looking for a post threat in its offense.
Prediction: UNLV
