Kings remove interim tag from Coach Tyrone Corbin

The Sacramento Kings have decided to lift coach Tyrone Corbin’s interim tag giving him more control over the team’s future. Ownership has also used the phrase “Handing him the reigns for the rest of the season.”

This clearly indicates that the Kings plan to monitor coach Corbin for the remainder of the season, and depending on the performance of the team and the total amount of wins that Sacramento can achieve, the Kings hierarchy will then decide Corbin’s future as coach. Sacramento has gone 2-5 since Corbin has taken charge after coach Michael Malone was fired less than 25 games into the season.

The Kings currently stand at 13-19 and are struggling in an unforgiving Western Conference. Even worse, star player DeMarcus Cousins is falling into his old bad habits, after he was ejected from the game against the Boston Celtics for throwing rookie point guard Marcus Smart to the floor.

I personally feel that Cousins was hurt by the firing of former coach Michael Malone. When watching Kings games, you could see the connection between the two. I also believe that former coach Malone clamped Cousins down a lot more than previous coaches. It can’t be a coincidence that as soon as there is a coaching change Cousins seemed to go straight back into his old ways.

Corbin seems confident in his abilities, as well as those of the team, he was quoted as saying about the current coaching situation, “The team can relax on that part of it and focus more on games.”

Coach Tyrone Corbin obviously has previous experience in the NBA; he spent just over three seasons in Utah as head coach of the Jazz. His record over that time was 112-146.

So Tyrone Corbin seems confident he can get this job on a permanent basis, but unfortunately for Corbin, I believe Sacramento will have a new head coach next season. George Karl would be a perfect replacement for the Kings in the long run.
