The Houston Rockets organization has signed coach Kevin McHale to a three year contract extension. The deal is worth $13 million. This is most likely not the last deal the Rockets will be completing this season, after an eventful last 7 days. The team first traded for wing man Corey Brewer, a good addition to an already very talented roster.
The team is reportedly set to be making an even more high profile move, and signing forward Josh Smith who was waived by the Detroit Pistons. Before any deal with Smith can become official he must clear NBA waivers, though with his contract that is not expected to be an issue. Both Brewer and Smith are good additions who can help the Rockets win and even contend for the NBA Title.
Lets get back to the McHale move which might be the best of the three for the team. McHale has led the team to a 20-7 record so far, despite being without center and star player Dwight Howard, who has been missing for a large amount of the season, and is currently dealing with a knee injury. This shows great perseverance by both the team and head coach. McHale has impressed me as a coach and his reputation will only grow. He has been given the time I think he fully deserves, and in the long run time will certainly help his talented Houston Rocket’s team reach their eventual goal of winning an NBA Championship.
The Rockets have a bright future this is mostly down to star players James Harden and Dwight Howard. The leadership shown by both players on the court and by head coach Kevin McHale, will no doubt lead this Rockets team to a championship, maybe not this year but certainly in the future.
