Sorry for the brief hiatus last week. Moving into a new home can be tricky and time consuming. All of the junk that you acquired over the years suddenly reappears and you’re faced with an ultimatum; pack it up or throw it out. The sentimental attachment alone can interrupt the process because we reminisce about our long forgotten objects which bring everything to screeching halt. What do we keep? What do we toss? How do you decide? It’s an arduous operation, but one that is necessary.
Adjusting Your Playoff Roster: Fantasy Football Moves
It’s a lot like your fantasy team. You need to move into the playoffs, but you have to shake some players and keep some players. Most importantly we have to buy furniture for our new digs in the playoffs. So let’s purge and save players for the coming weeks.
Adjust Your Roster
Drop
This list is based on players with big names but have been big let downs. These players are still owned in over 50% of leagues in Yahoo and are fine to drop by now if you need the room.
Cordarrelle Patterson, MIN WR- Patterson is an extremely talented individual. He has the requisite skill to burn defenders and munching on turf with his mind blowing speed and strength. Unfortunately he has been figured out. Once CP84 is jammed by defending cornerbacks at the line he loses his edge and isn’t interested in competing to get open.
Michael Floyd, ARI WR- I’m not sure where the 1,000 yard receiver of last year has been, but he has not been seen this year. Floyd hasn’t recorded more than five receptions in a single game this year and the last time he did it was back in week three. He has one last chance to show what he can do against the Falcons this Sunday, but the rest of his schedule is looking dreadful (KC, STL, SEA, SF).
Vernon Davis, SF TE- The last time I drafted Vernon Davis was in 2012. He was a victim of poor utilization and some bumps and bruises. The year ended and I vowed to never draft him again. I kept that tradition this year, but obviously he has a big name and, let’s face it, he is an all-star, but his star power doesn’t shine bright in fantasy this year. His week one outburst was misleading and apparently not indicative of what you could expect from the aging veteran.
Montee Ball, DEN RB- I’m sure most have jumped ship by now, especially with what CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman were able to demonstrate in the same position, but there are plenty of dreamers that are hanging onto his collegiate years. The dream is dead and gone folks. He wasn’t cut out for the starting gig. Maybe one day, but that day isn’t today.
Pickup
Self Explanatory, players that should be on your team!
Zach Mettenberger, QB TEN- This little gunslinger has been on full display these past couple weeks and looks to guide your team through a soft playoff schedule. His matchups include NYG, NYJ, and JAC; all teams that are surrendering major points to opposing QB. Not pretty, but effective.
LeGarrette Blount, NE RB- What happened last Sunday was a classic example of why you don’t tread on Belicheck. Jonas Gray showed up late to the Patriots practice facility, ultimately missing practice, and was kept on the sideline for his transgressions. I’d expect Blount to secure the running duties in New England since he’s a proven commodity and a veteran that wants to stay in business. Now if he misses team meetings or practices, I can’t guarantee that he keeps the job.
Daniel Herron, IND RB- I don’t think that Trent Richardson’s 3.4 yards per carry are going to satisfy the Colts high octane appetite. Herron drew the start and was surprisingly effective. It sounds like Richardson was dealing with an illness leading up to the game, but Herron proved that he should get a shot in the rotation.
Latavius Murray, OAK RB- It appears as if the aging, ailing veterans are letting the starting job slip to a spring chicken. Before free agency kicked off, there was a lot of buzz circulating around this young prospect. Murray (Not DeMarco), is spry and has moved mountains with the small sample size he’s garnered. Oakland might be heading for the first overall pick, but they can at least show some life for the rest of the season by inserting the sophomore.
Charles Johnson, MIN WR- There is a new target in town and he’s 6’2” and awfully fast. Johnson followed offensive coordinator Norv Turner to Minnesota from Cleveland and Bridgewater picked up on the reasons why. With Patterson failing to get up to speed as the number one option in the receiving corps, it affords Johnson to display his size and speed on a more significant platform. The Vikings are out of contention as well, but they still have a couple more divisional games that they refuse to lose.
