Every race in any form Motorsport starts off with, well a start; and Formula E knows how to get it done. The start of Saturday Morning’s ePrix was more exciting than most of the Formula 1 starts we’ve seen this year. Now give me a break f1 fans I didn’t mean it like that.
The Formula E Putrajaya race took off from a standing start and featured the use of a safety car twice in the first half of the race. This could be from the abundance of tires that seemed to be slipping every which way. Cars would fish tail and tap the wall adding some excitement to the bumper to bumper action we saw throughout the race.
Now, some social media users have been criticizing the use of a mid race car switch, but in reality, it is an equivalent to a pit stop you would see in F1 or NASCAR. Since the cars don’t need a tire change, and don’t use fuel (except running out of power) a pit stop adds a more strategic factor to the racing, which Oriol Servià used to his advantage.
Comparing this series’ liveries to the liveries in F1, although it’s harder to follow the pairs of teams, any paint scheme geek will love the series.
A lot of motorsport fans will learn to appreciate the series during the off season, with it being the only form of Motorsport going on through the winter. They will learn to appreciate how close the finish always is — since it’s such a short race, we haven’t seen one drive pull away from the rest yet this season, and the fantastic finish from Sam Bird beat Lucas Di Grassi today was a prime example of that.
After the race, Bird did the classy thing by dedicating his dominant performance to Jules Bianchi.
