Earlier today star running back for the Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson was informed from the league, that he would be suspended for the remainder
of 2014 without pay. Adam Schefter tweeted the news first.
“Adrian Peterson was notified today that he has been suspended without pay for at least the remainder of the 2014 NFL season.” @AdamSchefter
A few moments later he commented that Peterson would Appeal
“Adrian Peterson is appealing the suspension right away, per league source.” @AdamSchefter
Adrian Peterson Suspended for Remainder of Season
As it stands Peterson will not be eligible for reinstatement before April 15th 2015. The suspension stems from his pleading no contest to charges in relation to his disciplining of his 4-year-old son earlier this year.
While it is clear that Peterson will appeal, Jason La Canfora of CBS tweeted the following, saying Peterson would remain on the Commissioners exemption list while any appeal is heard.
“Peterson has 3 days to appeal and get an expedited hearing. If he does NFL says he remains on Exempt List w/pay pending decision” @JasonLaCanfora
Peterson had held a conference call with a league arbiter in relation to his continuing presence on the exemption list yesterday and the ruling on this was expected tomorrow. Peterson had argued that his presence on the list past the conclusion of his legal matters was a violation of the original agreement when placed on the Commissioners exemption list and the NFLPA had fast tracked his appeal.
In a statement released by the NFL, Peterson was informed that while his suspension is eligible for review on April 15th it would depend on his compliance in relation to rehabilitation programmes and that if any such event were to occure again a lifetime ban would be enforced.
“In a letter to Peterson, Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision. Under this two-step approach, the precise length of the suspension will depend on your actions. We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement. You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy.”” NFL Statement
