Williams Brazilian Grand Prix Preview: Praying for no Rain

Following a poor race at Austin where both drivers were outwitted and outclassed by Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo, Williams will be hoping to get some revenge at the Brazilian Grand Prix at Felipe Massa’s home track – Interlagos. With third place in the championship far from secure, the team require a strong result here to have a decent lead over Ferrari heading into the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Rain however, will not help that as the Williams has clearly been useless in wet conditions compared to dry conditions, despite upgrades throughout the season.

Williams Brazilian Grand Prix Preview

No. 19 Felipe Massa (BRA) – 8th

Form: 3/5/7/11/4

2013 (Driving for Ferrari): Grid: P9, Race: P7

Massa bowed out from his long career at Ferrari here last year. He has also taken his most recent win here back in 2008 when he came so close to the championship. After a really strong couple of races including beating his team mate Valtteri Bottas on merit on a few occasions lately, he will be heading into this weekend with confidence. If it is dry, he will be a contender for the podium. If not, he will be a contender for points.

No. 40 Felipe Nasr (BRA)

New Sauber driver Nasr will take part in Free Practice 1 for Williams.

No. 77 Valtteri Bottas (FIN) – 4th

Form: 4/11/6/3/5

2013: Grid: P13, Race: Retired (Collision)

Bottas’ first race here didn’t end brilliantly as he was taken out in the second half of the race by Lewis Hamilton. He was pretty dejected after the last race following a really anonymous race. He will be hoping for much better at the Brazilian Grand Prix where Williams have shocked in recent years. The Finn is generally the first of the Williams in wet conditions so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the rain. Like his team mate, the weather will decide his race day target.
