Blue Jackets Defenseman Jack Johnson Suspended 3 Games

The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety, has suspended Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson for three games. Johnson was involved in an illegal check to the head of Carolina Hurricanes froward Jiri Tlusty at 7:31 of the third period and was assessed a minor penalty.

Tlusty was injured on the play and was taken for further evaluation by the Hurricanes medical staff and did not return to the game. Tlusty will undergo additional testing this week.

Johnson has no prior history of illegal hits, and will forfeit $70,276.50 in salary for his actions. Through 12 games this season, Johnson has 5 assists and a -11 plus/minus rating. In eleven games this season, Tlusty has six goals and two assists for the struggling Hurricanes.
