Claude Julien Signs 3-Year Extension

As per Elliotte Friedman of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien has signed a three-year extension with the team. However, lips are firmly sealed as both the team and Julien are not confirming nor denying the reports.

In 550 career games with the Bruins organization, Julien has a coaching record of 316-169-65 and a Stanley Cup ring. “Stone Claude,” a popular nickname given by the internet population (ironic as his current number of wins with the team stands at 316), won the Jack Adams Award in 2008-09 after his team posted a 53-19-10 record. In the last four years, the Bruins have made the Cup finals twice, winning one while losing the other to the Blackhawks in six games during the 2012-13 postseason.

All-time, Julien is 435-255-88 along with 10 games that ended in a tie, which was offically ruled out by the 2005-06 season, totalling for a .614 winning percentage. In the playoffs, Julien is 61-47 in 109 career games, totalling for a .560 winning percentage.

The move has been seen as a step in the right direction:

“Good. He’s another that yo yos here won’t realize what they had until he’s gone.”

-Gee Wally of HFBoards

“Excellent! One of the very elite coaches in the league. Classy, steady, and smart. There’s not a coach in the NHL I would want more than him to be in Boston.”
-missingchicklet of HFBoards

“Our Claude is an awesome Claude!”
-Alicat of HFBoards

Seemingly saved by the 2013-14 President’s Trophy, the Bruins have increasingly become a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, either finishing near or atop the Atlantic Division by season’s end. Despite the numerous injuries thus far in the 2014-15 season, Julien has managed to coach a team with fresh, inexperienced faces to remain competitive and pull out wins through difficult times.

The Boston Bruins sit in 6th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 7-6-0, good for 14 points, which leaves them tied with the two teams ahead of them, the Detroit Red Wings (4th, 6-2-2) and the New Jersey Devils (5th, 6-3-2).
