FSU Running Back Karlos Williams Under Investigation

In a statement released this afternoon by the Tallahassee Police Department, TPD confirmed that Florida State running back Karlos Williams is the subject of a domestic battery investigation, after a report was filed by his girlfriend last week. Williams and his girlfriend have one child together; she is currently expecting their second child.

Tallahassee Police Department declined to release the name of Williams’ girlfriend or details regarding the case:

“The alleged crime is an active on-going investigation and Florida Law does not allow TPD to discuss the details of any case while it is on-going.”

Florida State’s athletics department responded by statement on Monday, stating “The athletics department is aware of an investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department involving football student-athlete Karlos Williams. Until we receive more information regarding the alleged incident his status with the team will be under review.”

Williams has hired Tallahassee attorney Tim Jansen, who did not comment on Monday. Multiple reports stated that Williams’ girlfriend posted photos to her Facebook account of bruises and spoke out against domestic violence. The post has since been deleted.

Twitter was quick to react to the report, with tweets representing an array of tones, from sarcastic to disappointed.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher denied suspension rumors last week. FSU beat reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, Brendan Sonnone, tweeted that the suspension rumors were actually completely unrelated to the charges announced by TPD today.

This is William’s first year starting at running back, and he has been a standout leader for the Seminoles’ offensive ground attack, rushing for 378 yards and seven touchdowns this year. Williams did attend Monday’s practice in full pads. There appears to be more legal trouble for Williams, even beyond the domestic battery issue, involving an armed robbery investigation, according to ESPN’s Matt Fortuna.
