Toronto Argonauts Ready to Play

It is now crunch time in the CFL, and the Argonauts are set for a key battle against this Saturday against the Hamilton Ticats for a shot at a home playoff game.

The Argos suffered a frustrating loss last week at the hands of the Alouettes and subsequently have fallen a win behind both Montreal and Hamilton for first place in the CFL east division.

Despite the loss, the double blue can still take control of the season. Having split their games with both Hamilton and Montreal this season, the Boatmen can win against both teams in the next two crucial weeks, and own the tie breaker against them.

The Argos did manage to hang around last week despite losing the game, and that is another positive to look at. Although they’ve given up some losses, the team has shown week in and week out.

John Chiles for the Argonauts was asked about improving execution at Wednesday’s practice. He responed, “We just have to put last week behind us and execute each day in practice, and continue to get better while getting ready for Hamilton.”

The Argos appeared to be very focused during a sunny practice on Wednesday. Chiles touched on that as well. “Everybody is very focused. We have been watching a lot of extra film and doing our part individually to come together as a team.”

The Argonauts will be taking on their rivals from just down the highway for the second time in three weeks. The last time they met it was a thriller, with the home side Argos coming out on top.

Hamilton is noted for a blitzing style defence that gives a lot of different looks over the course of the game. Toronto center Jeff Keeping gave his thoughts on what to take from last week and move forward to this game. “We are in sync as a unit. We will make the necessary adjustments from watching the film, continue to practice and play hard as a unit.”

The season is winding down, and these are the moments we all hope for as fans. Three weeks left to play and the division is still a three-way fight among very good teams. With the Argos finishing at home against Hamilton, on the road against Montreal and back at the Rogers Center for their regular season finale against the Redblacks, they are still very much in control of their playoff chances.
