Do you ever get tired of watching these fantasy shows, or hitting your fantasy football “guru” on Twitter for some waiver wire targets, only to find out they were taken weeks ago? The players most highly touted to pick up off the waiver by experts are always gone in the leagues I play in. I’ve had enough.
Here are some DEEP fantasy sleepers I’d be willing to bet are still available and might be worth targeting this week. Now keep in mind since I have to dive so deep to find these guys, some of them will not make it to the light of your lineup, but these are guys that might help you win down the stretch.
These deeper sleepers are especially useful in 14, 16, or 18 team leagues where the quality of talent has really dropped off when you get to the waiver wire.
Quarterback: Austin Davis, St. Louis Rams
Where did this kid come from? It is not often guys like Davis get the opportunity to start at quarterback in the NFL. Having gone undrafted in addition to being cut by the Rams last year, this guy has something to prove. If you take away the second half of the 49ers game (where Harbaugh made some fantastic adjustments to confuse this young talent), Davis has performed fantastically. The downside to Davis is the tough division he plays in.
Running Back: Storm Johnson, Jacksonville Jaguars
The Toby Gerhart reign has come and gone quicker than a fart in the wind. He has just been terrible. Storm is a raw talent that needs some polishing, but if you are struggling at running back then this guy could help you moving forward.
Wide Receiver: Robert Woods, Buffalo Bills
Kyle Orton is the new arm in Buffalo for now. That isn’t a great thing but compared to the inaccuracy of Manuel, he’s a savior. That being said, Orton is a wily old vet who likes to stand and deliver a ball to a sure handed target. I think Woods will finally get his shot at achieving what he’s capable of. He was targeted a lot by Orton last week and if he makes plays, he will keep getting the ball thrown his way.
Tight End: Scott Chandler, Buffalo Bills
Most of what I said about Woods holds true to Chandler as well, although I would actually prefer Chandler at this point. Orton was looking to the 6’7″ pass catcher early and often. Chandler has sure hands and can be a top 12 fantasy tight end as the year plays itself out.
Remember these are DEEP sleepers, not necessarily someone you want to go throw in your lineup this week.
