Well, it’s been a weird six weeks. For some, they’ve seen their late first round pick, DeMarco Murray, blow up and continue on pace for 2,000 yards. We’ve also seen some bad injuries. Last week, we saw the New York Giants’ Victor Cruz tear his patella tendon, rendering him out for the season. Knowshon Moreno and Steven Ridley are out for the season. So, what do you do? It might be time to wheel and deal. Time to buy low, or sell high. These are the top 4 guys that you should target in your leagues.
Sell High:
Shane Vereen – This could actually be on the ‘buy low’ portion. However, Vereen has been incredibly inconsistent this year. He had a good week 1, and has been sporadic the rest of the year. Last week he was utterly useless for people starting him. For me, I had Charles on a bye and had to use Vereen in his place. I’m selling high. Target the person who owns Steven Ridley, chances are they have a bad record if they are using him. After this week, his value will be determined. As of right now his value is shooting up because he should get more touches. The problem is that Bill Bellichick hates our fantasy teams. Sell him, and do it now.
DeMarco Murray – This is as high as his value is going to go. However, if you’re a Murray owner, you probably don’t want to disrupt the chemistry of your team. Let me tell you something: Murray is brittle, he’s been injured in past seasons. Let’s do the math: Murray has been injured in some fashion the last two years. In 2012, he suffered a sprained foot in Week 6, putting him out of action until Week 13. After his return, he was mediocre but did have flashes of brilliance. In 2013, it was the same song. Injured in Week 6 with a sprained MCL. Guess what: it’s week 7 and Murray has more rushing yards that most of the offenses in the NFL. Look for someone who is loaded at WR but needs a RB. I would take someone like Lynch, Bell, Foster or Charles. Someone somewhere will want Murray. It’s time to sell high on him, this won’t last. You can get much more for him RIGHT NOW than you will be able to in a few weeks. Sell High for proven talent, and do it where your roster is suffering.
Buy Low:
Dez Bryant – This is directly related to the Murray argument. At some point, the Cowboys are going to have to switch up the game plan. Murray is averaging 26 carries per game, which is very high. That number will go down and will get transferred to looks in Dez Bryant’s way. Dez has only been over 100 yards once this year, but has TDs in four of six games. Owners are getting frustrated. Take advantage. He will blow up from here on out.
Jerrick McKinnon – Most of the leagues out there still have McKinnon as a Waiver guy. In most 12 team leagues, he’s already taken. He will have a tough matchup this week against Buffalo, but his schedule continues to get easier. If you have seen him play, he’s the much more talented guy. Matt Asiata is not holding up his end of the bargain and McKinnon will take the reigns as the top back in Minneapolis. He’s a talented runner with great vision. He is getting more and more touches each week, and even though Mike Zimmer refuses to formally name him as the starter, he will be. If he’s on your waiver wire, scoop him up. Most likely, you’ll have to make a trade for him. It’s worth a look as a RB2, he’s going to turn heads in the coming weeks. I’d give up a Doug Martin or Justin Forsett for him, someone in the 18-30 range in the rankings.
