According to Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall, Braydon Coburn was expected to miss tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils. After sustaining a lower-body injury, the defenseman was replaced by Nick Schultz, who took to pre-game warm-ups earlier in the night.
Bill Meltzer, beat writer for the Flyers, made note that Coburn was seen later that evening on crutches:

Hextall later would make the following statement, in regard to Coburn’s condition;
Hextall on Coburn: “Going to be re-evaluated tonight and again in next few days. Not going to be day-to-day. Going to take some time.” — Bill Meltzer (@billmeltzer) October 9, 2014
With uncertainty in the air, if Coburn is expected to miss more time than originally thought, this could force the hand of Hextall and some changes could be made, be it a minor trade or a call-up.
The last time Coburn was out of the line-up, it came last season when he was side-lined for 15 games with a seperated shoulder (March 30th, 2013). The 29-year old defenseman played 20:12 in last night’s 2-1 loss against the Boston Bruins where he registered three shots on net and was a +1.
Coburn was not on hand for the Flyers’ optional skate on Thursday morning.
