The University of Florida released a portion of the 18-page police report in the alleged Treon Harris sexual battery case.
The report released by the school was retracted and UF spokeswoman Janine Sykes cited a state statute that allows for authorities to retract reports that have direct connections with any ongoing police investigation.
The only information released by the school was the time, location of the alleged incident, the name of the responding officer, and the vital information on Harris, including his height, weight, and birth date.
She also said that even if Harris faces no criminal charges, he could still be subject to student code of conduct violations and sanctions.
The UF campus police crime log shows that authorities were called to the Springs Residential Complex, a dormitory that houses many of the Gator athletes, at 12:49 a.m. early Monday morning. It was later described as a sexual assault allegation by the school.
The school president took swift action. “We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus,” UF President Bernie Machen said in a statement released by the school.
Harris has already been indefinitely suspended from all team activities while the school investigates the matter. Gainesville police have said that they are assisting with the collection and analysis of forensic evidence, but that the school police department is in charge of the case due to the incident allegedly taking place on campus.
Will Muschamp addressed the situation earlier in the day at his press conference that had been delayed from Monday.
“The statement that the university released Monday I think was pretty self-explanatory,” he said. “It’s a very serious charge and there’s been no change in his status.”
He would not elaborate any further due to the ongoing investigation.
Harris was expected to see significant playing time this week, possibly even being tapped for his first start when the LSU Tigers come to the Swamp on Saturday. Now, Jeff Driskel will now continue as the starter, but Will Muschamp said that freshmen Will Grier is healthy and will have to be ready if called upon. Grier has been on campus since the spring and could be more familiar with Kurt Roper’s playbook than Harris was.
Harris has completed 4 of 6 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns on the young season. He has added 25 yards rushing on seven attempts. Driskel has struggled, completing only 76 of 139 passes for 695 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions through four games. Will Grier has not seen the field yet for the Gators.
