Basketball fans in Denver will sleep well tonight, as Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that starting power forward Kenneth Faried has signed a new 5-year, $60 million dollar contract extension. There has been much anticipation of the deal.
The contract includes a partial guarantee in the fifth year of the deal, meaning that Faried is guaranteed at least $52 million of the $60 million contract.
Given his play in recent years, Faried has earned the contract. Its perfect way for the Nuggets and Kenneth Faried to start the upcoming NBA season.
Faried, was a member of Team USA and brings home a gold medal from the 2014 FIBA World Cup of Basketball. The 24-year-old averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game last season.
This is a bold, but good move made by Nuggets GM Tim Connelly. Kenneth Faried has always impressed me as a player, known as the “Manimal” for his aggressive, hard-working attacking style while on the court.
I believe that Kenneth Faried is a future NBA all-star. The beast on the court that Faried currently is, can only be unleashed further. With the NBA’s new mega tv deal, the salary cap will rise and this deal will look like a bargain.
The Nuggets have just made the first move to becoming a powerful force in the NBA. They will hope they can delve deep into the NBA playoffs this year moving past last year’s disappointing campaign, which was riddled with injury and inconsistency.
Faried is the type of dual-threat who who can score points and dominate defensively. He gives the Nuggets options at both ends of the court and has shown big improvements. The very fact he made a deep an competitive Team USA roster shows just how good a player he can become. With his improvements Faried could see further improvements in his numbers, and could be pushing for 20 points a game this year.
Faried is also an intimidating figure on defense. He is the type of player in which when the offensive player is driving to the basket, they must worry if he is going to block them at the rim.
Faried is a promising, up-and-comer who has already earned this contract. He might just be a bargain for the Nuggets going forward.
