I hate that I am even writing Keith Olbermann’s name after the cheap-shot he gave Derek Jeter in his on-air editorial last week, but it needs to be said: Keith Olbermann is a classless clown.
To even fathom, that anybody would stoop to such a low level and point out Derek Jeter’s flaws during his final week of an incredible career, is just dumbfounding. Not only was he a great player, but he was a great ambassador of this great game. Something Roger Goodell wishes he had more of.
Even though I haven’t liked his style, for many years, I never would have brought that up, until now. Keith Olbermann was a media baseball pioneer in the late ’70s and all the way to his meteoric rise, alongside legendary broadcaster Dan Patrick, on SportsCenter into the 1990s. I have held my tongue/keyboard about his played out schtick, but that flew out the window when he slammed Derek Jeter. The gloves are now off Olbermann.
The liberal audience that put up with your slimy attacks on MSNBC isn’t here to pat you on the back every time you take an unfair stab at established legends. You’re going to ACTUALLY have to back your attacks with facts. Derek Jeter isn’t one of the all-time greats? Surely, you jest!
Derek Jeter: 14 time All-Star, 2000 World Series MVP, 5 World Series Titles, 7 AL pennants, 5 Gold Gloves, 5 Silver Sluggers, New York Yankees All time leader in hits (3,465), doubles (544), games played (2,747) and stolen bases (358), .321 career World Series batting average, Most hits by a shortstop, Most runs by a shortstop!, 2nd in total bases by a shortstop, 1st in Offensive WAR for a shortstop #1;
Keith Olbermann YOU are the one who is overrated. Your ‘dry wit’ is forced and makes me change the channel quicker than Jeter’s 4.0 dash down the first base line. How can those numbers equal an overrated player on any team from any era?
At the end of the day, Keith Olbermann is just a washed up hack that did that piece on Jeter to help his awful show’s ratings. Well it didn’t work, and I for one, will never watch anything he is involved with again. It’s kind of like how I didn’t watch him before. MSNBC, please take him back, so I can just block the channel and him all-at-once.
